I tried to go home!
Author: santafe199

Honest, I really did. I spent the entire afternoon of the 3rd over in Topeka on 2 missions, as it turned out. First up was a very tardy Amtrak #4, which I nailed at the very difficult 29th St overpass south of downtown. After that I hung around and watched/shot a BNSF crew getting a 9-car biz train DH ready to go to Kansas City. I had visions of getting home and treating myself to a Pizza Hut finale. But this danged ol’ Kansas sunset put the kibosh on that idea. By the time I hauled my old carcass into Manhattan city limits I had decided to head straight home and raid the fridge’ for leftovers.

And then I sat down at the computer to weed my way through the latest 200+ digital images in my D7100. So how was your day?

1. Looking west from the Lower Silver Lake Rd crossing. This is ‘Ruby Yard’ -on the right- where several dozen derelict UP diesels are sitting in long-term storage. (Which should warm the heart of any steam fan... ;^)

2. & 3. Now looking west from the Menoken Rd crossing. That would be UP 3081 approaching with another monstacker (aka MONSTER stack train).

Thanks for looking!

I’ll say number 1 is the pièce de resistance of the trio but they’re all great and well worth skipping Pizza Hut.

Thanks! Truth be known... I could probably skip the next 174 trips to the 'Hut and save the calories...

(But don't go telling anybody... ;^)

You taught me well, Lance. Now I read EVERY stinkin' word in your posts!

If you keep this up, you're never gonna get home! But while you're out chasing the sunsets, you're getting pretty darn good at creating some fine images as you do so. Excellent work, sir, and congrats on the IOTD.
