BNSF 431229 isn't going anywhere soon!
Author: funnelfan

BNSF 431229 won't be leaving Nampa, ID anytime soon! Looks like a Thrall built 4750cuft hopper. Not sure of the heritage, but BN had many like it.

Very important to also leave the couplers on it at that altitude !

It's a monument to the covered hopper car.  I hope you showed the proper respect as you passed by.

There has been one on the North side of the wash at Barstow since the early sixties, one way to
preserve a freight car.

They is a hopper just like that one above at La Junta. You can see on #3 and 4 just east of the station.

Lots of those across the SW, esp. between Lubbock and Clovis on the Slaton Sub. Looks like they forgot to cover over the BNSF reporting marks and put on their own, will they get in trouble?!

This shot brings up, at least to me, an interesting question.  Has anyone else noticed that the railroads, and BNSF in particular, have stopped buying outside braced covered hoppers?  I saw two grain trains today and 95 per cent or more of the cars were centerflows.  And of teh few outside braced cars, only ONE had BNSF reporting marks.  I'm thinking this is a fuel thing but am wondering if anyone has any better information.

Anybody get a spot time on this car? Hate for it to hit dwell time on the 24 hour report.

Harold, and then there's the air hose still hanging also.  I wonder if they even dumped the air before arriving at this perch?  Maybe the air reservoir and cylinder with brake wheel are at oppostie end, but I doubt so.  All is well!!
