A hot phone-text tip on an eastbound coal train. And I can just make it downtown for a few shots. I need a few groceries anyway. So it works for me, right? Wrong! I forgot to anticipate the part where my tipster says: “By the way, this train is meeting a westbound at St Marys”. And of course, another Kansas sunset is imminent. I’ve seen this act before, and I know how the play ends... :^)

1. UP 8612 is eastbound with loaded coal buckets about 2 miles east of Belvue, KS.

2. Now coming through downtown St Marys, KS, I’ve just about used up all available sunset silhouette time. So I decided to go artsy with...

3. ...DP unit UP 6383 as it rolled over the 8th Street crossing in St Marys. A little blur-action & a wee bit of Photoshop chicanery... :^)

All are good but #1 is a real winner. Lance it almost looks like you know what you are doing. That photo is one of the best sunset with a train I hace ever seen. My vote for IOD.
