Unexpected loaded coal on MRL
Author: RayH

Normally you can expect to see loaded coal trains moving west on MRL. Today I have witnessed loaded coal moving EAST on MRL (2 trains around Missoula).
Apparently there's a strike at the Roberts Bank export coal terminal in British Columbia. I'm wondering how far east this coal will be moved?

There was one showing on the SPO-WHI lineup that did not run. It was going to Detroit Edison somewhere back east.

There were seven Roberts Bank loads parked on MRL scattered across the railroad. Two, that I know of have returned east, one towards Glendive and the other to Sheridan. They must be selling them off on the spot market.

I heard that from railroad management yesterday as well, that the coal export facility at Roberts Bank BC is on strike.

Anything going to Detroit Edison will most likely go to the coal terminal in Superior, Wis., for onward movement by water to the Detroit area.
