Cool Day On The BNSF Lakeside Sub--A Bit Of Traction
Author: Ritzville

It was a cool cloudy day with drips in Ritzville, WA on the BNSF Northern Transcon. The high-low was 67-53 with .14 of rain. Any falling water is appreciated. Traffic is at 18 trains since midnight with more on the way. Here are some trains from yesterday and today and a bit of Traction. Starting to run low of Traction pictures.

No 18 shows car 1100 sitting on track 8 at the rear of Pacific Electric's 6th & Main St station, but it is operating
as a single car account even through the 1100 and blimp behind it had identical couplers, they were unable to
operate in MU control owing to differing air brake systems. This same disparity affected the MU'ing of 1100's to
PE's 1200 class cars. Notice too the 1100 has been outfitted with a wheel trolley, a necessity when traveling
on freight-only electrified trackage that was never visited by the trolley greaser car.

A photo of car 1100 on a fan trip at Artesia on the Santa Ana line on October 15, 1949 appears in David Garcia
and Joe Strapac's book Pacific Electric Cars. Likewise, the photo of 1100 appearing in the 9/19/22 posting
showing the car at Nevin, on the Santa Monica Air-Line is possibly corroborated in another photo in the book
identifying the car on an excursion on February 11, 1951 in Torrance, complete with the same wheeled trolley
seen at Nevin. Both the Nevin photo and the Torrance photo are under heavy overcast skies---possibly the same trip.

Ritzville Action
Fall temperatures with mostly cloudy skies provided a backdrop for interesting train movements.
Grain, oil, manifest, and intermodal  traffic prdominated.
NOKL #828021 was definitely a super and most unusual catch.
Unit Of The Day is BNSF #287.

Historic Traction
18 - A wonderful interurban scene from yesteryear.  The white flag on #1100 adds interest to the scene.
21 - Both are nice examples of the GM Model  TD3609; white station eagon in the background is a 1957/58 Ford.
22 - My kind of GM New Look, it's air conditioned.

Thanks for posting more interesting Ritzville action and  terrific traction treasures.

ALLEN
