Frozen Fogged In On The BNSF--A Bit Of Traction
Author: Ritzville

It was a cold frozen fog day in Ritzville, WA on the BNSF Lakeside Sub on the Northern Transcon. The high-low was 34-23 with .15 of ice rain and snow.. Today seeing the trains was a big problem being socked in with fog. tried to filter some of the fog in a few pictures.Wasn't a good day for pictures. Here are a few trains in the fog and ice rain. The fog lifted for about 30 minutes for lone train this afternoon.

1. WB 417pm grain train with BNSF 7060- 4754 with DPU in ice rain and bad light.
2. DPU BNSF 3964 on same train.

#15.  That horrible looking freeway crossing Market St. has fortunately been taken down, along with the one that used to cross right in front of the Ferry Building.  This all happened after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.  Sometimes the worst events can result in some good.

16.  Did anyone notice the real estate ad on the left?  A 3-bedroom, 2-bath house for $21,500.  I wonder how much that house is worth today?

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Ritzville Action
Definitely some gloomy wintry weather that is early for the season.
I think frozen fog should be called "snog" because in the air it is a cross between snow and fog.
Maybe the weather is for the birds, it certainly did not stop them. It didn't stop BNSF either.
Photo Of The Day is Photo 3 Looking Out Your Back Door.

Historic Traction
14 - Nice overall light traction scene. Auto to right of #1446 is a 195o Ford. Like the tractor with dump trailer in left background.
15 - Definitely a historic scene of a significant event; it won't happen again anytime soon.
16 - An interesting scene that includes a local landmark.
18 - #8033 is an AC&F/Brill Model TC-44 Built in 1946 looks great.

Thanks for posting the "snog" photos from Ritzville and the traction photos from yesteryear.

No 14 shows Los Angeles Transit Lines (LATL) car 1446 on the far southern reaches of the "F-Line",
most likely in the vicinity of 116th St & So. Vermont Ave, which was the end of the line. Today that location
would put you just west of the 105/110 freeway interchange. The wide median of Vermont Ave we see
in this view, remains. From 1949 to final abandonment on May 2, 1955, the most likely time period of this
photo, the line was called the South Vermont and Union Station Line.

No 18 is of LATL trolley coach 8033, a 1946 ACF-Brill product on the "3-Line". The destination sign says
'To 58th St' which is very close, one block north, of Slauson Ave---and replaced the once-rail 'U-Line' on
August 3, 1947.

I sure hope the "snog" is gone tomorrow. Thanks Charlie for your expertice on location points on the F Line and trolley bus location and make of bus. Nice to see the trains in the snow while here in the heat of South America. Keep warm Larry.
