207 Republicans vote against Paid Sick Leave for Rail Workers
Author: SpringedSwitch

207 GOP representatives voted against giving Paid Sick Leave for Rail Workers; it's pretty obvious which is the party is pro labor and which is against it.

I can't believe that in the year 2022 the Railroads don't offer sick pay to their employees. Almost every company of any size in the USA includes that in their pay package. From 1978 to 2002 I owned a small printing company with 9 employees and I provided sick pay to them. No one ever abused it. The blatant greed of the Railroads is (almost) unbelievable!

The carriers won!
No matter how much money the railroads make, the operating empployees get "railroaded"

When are you going to post about the democrats that just crammed a "contract" down our throats?

I don't recall us asking for 7 paid sick days. If the Dems were truly pro-labor, they would GTFO of the way and let us strike. This is just political grandstanding designed to distract everyone from the real issues. Let's face it, working-class Americans no longer have representation in Washington.

If this passes, I guarantee the carriers are just going to ratchet up their already impossible attendance policies. We may get paid sick days, but it will cost us somewhere else. Don't kid yourself, nobody in Washington is doing rail labor any favors right now.

Many  politicians have realized that a substantial percentage of their constituents don't give a rat's ass about who represents them.  In the most recent go-around, many declined to debate their opponent, or even answer questions from the press.  They might send out a YouTube video on a topic or two, but they see themselves as unaccountable.  That's not a good direction for the USA.

When the majority of your own union members didn't even vote to go on strike and instead accept a contract heavy on pay and short on benefits, how is this really ANYBODY'a fault in Washington, especially the Rebuplicans who aren't even in power in the House yet?  Don't go casting stones till you get your OWN people on the same page.

The 1980's all over again. Congress gave us payed personal leave days. A new employee got 2 an employee of 20 years got 11. The company got control of when we could use them.  In the 1980's President Reagan destroyed the air traffic control union. Then established the first PEB to prevent a railroad strike. The demarcates established a productive fund to justify the lose of both brakeman jobs. The fund was eliminated after the last protected employee hired before 1986 retired. Congress is controlling the people not the companies.
They have taken away our right to strike.

What!!?? I don't "own" anyone. To begin with, you identify who's against you. I'm feelin' generous, so I'll help ya out...that'd be 207 Republicans. Did you miss that in the headline? Ain't nobody "casting stones" bothering me, it's them that's 'casting votes'. Be well.

Trainjunkie for the win! NOBODY had the paid sick leave on the table. This has become the straw man in the whole damn debacle.

And people wonder why I’m registered Independent/Libertarian.

I mentioned this on another thread, but I'll repeat it.

The rail union negotiators are in a tough position. Thirty four % of the members didn't vote, for whatever reason.  Almost half of the remainder voted to take the deal.  Even though a majority of the members actually voting, voted to reject the deal, this isn't a mandate to storm the barricades.

Divide and conquer is alive and well

If anybody's left after the back pay and ratification checks are distributed, maybe it would be a good time to come up with a common bargaining plan and member education program for the next renewal in what, 28 months? And put some real heat on your individual Congress members, not just in the last few weeks of the negotiations.

I have no dog in this fight at all, NOBODY voted against ME.  You're on here complaining about somebody voting against something the people who would benefit from didn't care enough  about to risk voting for a strike. If you hate any and all Republicans, that's your right, but at least blame them for something that is actually their fault.  Unlike many around here, I have absolutely no issue arguing politics here, but you're WAY off base on this one.  If this deal gets shoved down the workers throats, you can thank the  workers, the unions and the President for making it happen.

I agree 100%.  This "campaign" is proably the only one in the last couple years run worse than the Republicans mid term election strategy.

As a card carrying CONSERVATIVE voter (I DO NOT consider myself Democrat or Republican. I vote VALUES) BOTH the railroads and those who voted AGAINST paid sick leave are just stupid and have NO morality for people. I pesronally would like to see our politicians have NO SICK LEAVE, NO HEALTH CARE, HAVE THEM MAKE LESS THAN MINIMUM WAGE AND CHAIN THEM TO THEIR DESKS UNTIL THE JOB IS FINISHED WITH MANDATORY RETIREMENT AT 65. This country's leadership sickens me. Trump and Biden are just two different sides to the same coin and TOO DAMN OLD to legislate.  The only caveat to all of this is that it's STILL the greatest country in the world.

Democrat here.... in response to your "at least the democrats are pro-labor" comment - I personally feel you really missed the mark on this one. If democrats were pro labor, they would've held the door open for a strike and put this back onto the carriers and management. Instead they tried to preserve public image by forcing a down voted contract back onto the table with one meager concession (sick days with no real expectations and criteria).... This house vote almost shows that it is the republicans who are miraculously shifting towards pro-labor for one single reason - Let a strike happen and make Biden/democrats look bad. One positive takeaway from this thread is that it seems people from both tribes are really starting to just dislike the government in general and I'm all for that!

One party votes to impose the TA on unions that clearly don't want it. The other voted to block Paid Sick days. Both parties suck and I can't believe anyone thinks they have your intrest.
