Textbook Tehachapi Loop!
Author: spsniper

During another wonderful trip while staying at the "Quintessential" Air B&B right next to loop it makes it convenient to view the loop as its right over the hill. Heres two shots of trains from our most recent visit to the famous "Tehachapi Loop"!

1. A short UP "hybrid" manifest/intermodal climbs the loop in the late afternoon just before sunset.

2. A UP manifest rounds the loop in the early morning just after sunrise.

Where did that box car come from in the first shot? What's it for?

Awesome drone shot angles of the trains traversing The Loop.

Might have been a derailment victim and it appears to be used for storage.

It looks like there's a lot more going on in that area besides just the boxcar. Does that have something to do with the ranch moving? Even if you couldn't walk in that area, it was a great spot to pull over a get a pic of Tunnel 9. It won't be possible any more with a bunch of structures there.

Both are prize winners, hard to pick a favorite!

In the early 1970s my Dad and I would watch trains from where the marker is on Woodford-Tehachapi Road and Dad would always ask me "Do you think this train is going to be long enough to 'loop' the Loop?"   And back then, quite a few freights were not long enough.
Now pretty much every freight is more than long enough.
