Wife, dog & I on short get away to the Blue Mountains
Author: dag-id

Sorry, No professional shooting here!
Just good times hanging with my wife and chocolate dog for a short get away to the Blue Mountains of Oregon
in the spring of 2022.

Pictures 1-3 are between Pleasant Valley and Baker City Oregon at one of our favorite pull off / camp spots along old Hwy 30. A very quiet evening, night and morning. Little did we know that traveling from the east, that just west of our location beyond the lower hills approx two miles out of sight. There was an army of track workers repairing the track where a derailment happened a day or two earlier.
Pic#1. looking west down the tracks towards Baker City.
Pic#2 Our chocolate moose dog posing with the signal.
Pic#3 My preferred method of following railroad tracks.
More to Come.

A quite trip the rest of the way to LaGrande. As luck would have it (which isn’t all that often) there was a WB intermodal (small by today’s standards) parked east of town and what looked like a crew being dropped off as we drove by. To our surprise, it wasn’t to long and the WB was on the move. The first sign of life since the day before. Luck was on my side again with a EMD leader which has the most pleasing sound to me when tackling a steep grade in run 8.

Pic# 4-7 and video UP 8386 & 8167 leading a WB intermodal train working the grade on the Blue Mountain stretch of track between Hilgard and Kamela Oregon.

Sorry. Videos together were to large.
I broke them out seperately which took a little longer.

Homeward bound heading back east, we caught UP 7527, 4625 & 6909 leading a EB manifest out of the direction of Union climbing towards Telocaset. Also caught a 2nd eastbound manifest UP 2680 and company near the summit of Telocaset.

Next 2 Videos of eastbound manifest UP 2680 and company at the summit of Telocaset.
Thank you for taking a look! Be safe in your travels.

SORRY!
I just don't get the fascination with the EMD sound? Engines are just engines pulling a load. I could care less who built them or the noise that wakes me up..
When Baldwin, Lima, Alco, GE, or whoever built then it mattered. Today who really cares? Maybe some Chevy (GM) Freak vs, a let's say a pseudo Ford Freak {GE} gives a crap?
Power is power Chevy, Ford? Who really cares?

SORRY it is just a Cheyy vs. Ford thing. As my son says, "Don't know. Don't care"!

Oh! Gosh, there is no longer an EMD/GM thing, its gone, very gone!

Okay, Never mind.

You got some good shots there! I really like the first two with the signals framing the mountain and Wonder Dog in front of the right of way....

Are you looking for other peoples' answer to this (evidently) important question to you, or just hijacking someone else thread, story, and pictures to vent your frustrations of their story?

EMD's sound vastly different than GE's. Some people prefer one over the other. Different strokes for different folks. And I'm sure some, like you, don't prefer one over the other.
