Fort Worth & Western & Saturday
Author: KB5WK

Got up way to early this Saturday morning to take my wife to the DFW Airport to catch a flight home to visit her family while on spring break. She gets a week off and a break from the 2nd graders she teaches. Unfornuately I dont get a spring break anymore. But I digress. After dropping her off. I decided to make a trip to Ft Worth and see what was happening on the only shortline in Fort Worth. Arriving FWWR Hodge yard. The 101 yard job had just went to work switching yard and preparing a trip to the Union Pacific Peach yard to deliver there cut and bring back what UP had ready for the FWWR. After the 101 departed westbound backlit. The turn more south at NE 29th Street where the light was favorable on the nose.

03/04/2023 - Fort Worth TX.

1.  29th Street
2.  Tower 60
3.  Peach yard, north end

Drone shots at Peach yard.

Had to take a photo of this former CNW hopper car with INXS lettering of my favorite 80's and 90's rock band.  All the others hoppers had INSX stenciled on the other hoppers. So this was cool.

1. UP MOW cars at Peach yard. Looks like crew quarters or motel on rail.
2. iPad min video of the 101 switch at Ft Worth Hodge yard before departing to Peach yard. 03/04/23

Looks like a lot of UP interchange, which is great.

I assumed their business would be BNSF dominated since the lines are mostly (or entirely?) ATSF heritage.

Short lines with two or more C1 connections are valuable properties for developing new business.

Here a previous post a few months ago with BNSF interchange. BNSF delivered 118 cars that day from what I heard over the radio.

FWWR  also  serves the ex-MP (later T&P) Everman branch to a large industrial area in south Ft Worth .  Even though FWWR runs to Cleburne Tx the line was cut just about a block before it connected with the north south BNSF main line.  But there is no interchange with BNSF in Cleburne.  So FWWR can handle longer runs with traffic and interchange with who they want.

I was told UP was going to start a Rocky Mountain Explorer type of service...
