Western Railroad Discussion > Anyone know what happened East of NeedlesDate: 03/15/23 21:31 Anyone know what happened East of Needles Author: bnsfrr805 I'm hearing that something is on the ground east of Needles near Topock. Holding #3 at Winslow, and #4 holding at San Bernardino. Anyone know what happened?
Steve White Carthage, TX Date: 03/15/23 21:33 Re: Anyone know what happened East of Needles Author: SouthWestRailCams There has been tornado warnings earlier and severe winds. Per the RadioChatter on the Kingman Camera. Sounds like a Derailment and took out both mainlines.

As of 0321 3/16/21, no trains have passed the Kingman cam since a wb stack train at 2047 3/15/23. And Amtrak terminated #3 at Winslow and #4 at San Bernadino (I think - it's hard to determine from Amtrak Service Alerts commentary) https://www.devdiscourse.com/article/business/2381495-bnsf-says-train-carrying-corn-syrup-derailed-in-arizona Date: 03/16/23 03:34 Re: Anyone know what happened East of Needles Author: bmarti7 Date: 03/16/23 08:09 Re: Anyone know what happened East of Needles Author: PHall It was the Mohave County Sheriff Department that said it was "Hazardous Materials" and of course the news media ran with it.
How they made that determination is a really good question since they don't have access to the waybills or any other shipping papers. Date: 03/16/23 08:33 Re: Anyone know what happened East of Needles Author: espee4ever Its a tank car, it has to be filled with something hazardous!

Well, if it was a tank car derailed, it must be hazardous, right? In all fairness, consuming excessive amounts of corn syrup can be hazardous to your health. That's exactly how the media works. Tank car = hazardous. Date: 03/16/23 08:56 Re: Anyone know what happened East of Needles Author: Pacific5th PHall Wrote:

The crew should have Airdropped a wheel to the first responders. We used to have to carry two paper wheels and were supposed to give them a copy but now we hope they can get something airdropped to them. Date: 03/16/23 08:58 Re: Anyone know what happened East of Needles Author: bmarti7 Must be a good-sized wreck - from the BNSF Service Advisories webste:
The estimated time for opening main track two is Friday, March 17th, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. CDT. The estimated time for opening main track one is Saturday, March 18th, 2023 at 3:30 a.m. CDT. As mentioned already, the there are no hazardous material involved. Nevertheless national media reports that fact then goes on to mention several other recent derailments. PCBill Edited 1 time(s). had to be incredibly dangerous. Turned out to be molasses. Out Date: 03/16/23 10:28 Re: Anyone know what happened East of Needles Author: mpe383 So, the train was not carrying any hazardous materials at all? Most reports I have seen say that a train carrying hazardous materials has derailed- not that cars carrying hazardous materials have derailed, leaked etc.
as for the media, they are going to continue to milk their story of hazardous trains as long as they can. Date: 03/16/23 11:44 Re: Anyone know what happened East of Needles Author: BCHellman PHall Wrote:

Why wouldn't the media report what was released by the authorities in charge of securing the scene? > How they made that determination is a really good > question since they don't have access to the > waybills or any other shipping papers. Perhaps placards on the car, as required by the FRA. |
