on the road again . . .
Author: 3rdswitch

.   .   .   started the morning out looking for the ALM job that comes down from Bastrop ach weekday morning. Sure enough, looking up the main onnortheast side of Monroe, LA, here came a headlight. This job is normally ready to enter the KCS main near downtown around 0800 plus or minus a little, today about an hour later.
top: ALM job southbound crossing creek on northeast side of Monroe.
middle: curving towards westbound running through the suburbs.
bottom: KCS eastbound 167 car train finally leaving into in and out sun east of KCS Monroe yard.
.   .   .   nine more to come   .   .   .

.   .   .
top: as seems to be the pattern, second eastbound intermodal not far behind first one near downtown Monroe. This one being half intermodal and half car load traffic.
middle and bottom: finally ALM job allowed to leave west end of KCS yard to head back to Bastrop. Heading through the neighborhood just east of downtown Monroe.
.   .   .   last three   .   .   .

.   .   .   departed for Vicksburg thinking I might catch up to KCS led intermodal frieght mix crossing the Mississippi River bridge but instead found first NS led intermodal crossing bridge so headed for near downtown Vicksburg, MS, for shot climbing away from the Mississippi River (bottom) then was surprised to see a westbound crossing the river then heading into the siding at Bovay, LA (middle) where he met the other eastbound KCS led intermodal carload mix and finally getting the obligatory bridge crossing shot from the Mississippi visitors center (bottom). As info, KCS has a 10 mph speed restriction on the mile or so approach to the MIssissippi bridge from the west, across the actual bridge and around the curve through a couple of short tunnels onto the east bank of the river basically taking around a half hour to go from the east end of Bovay siding in Louisiana to the west end of Vicksburg siding. Not a bad day on the Meridian Speedway with three east and one west in less than five hours all of which would have been into good sun had it been out!

Nice photos, sir!  I like the framing of photo #7 with the tree in the top left corner.

Excellent work Joe! I'm partial to the NS train exiting the tunnel.

Can't go wrong with that bridge shot even if weather is not prime!

Nice set of images.  One of these days, we've gotta meet up somewhere around Vicksburg when you're passing through.  By the way, the 10 MPH Speed Limit on the Mississippi River Bridge is imposed by the Bridge Commission, not the KCS.  That sharp curve at the west end of the bridge is definitely a 10 MPH KCS-imposed speed limit.  If they hadn't re-aligned the west approach during construction of I-20, it might have been slightly higher, but not much.
