Empty bare tables.
Author: tomstp

I've been seeing a lot of empty  bare tables lately.  One BNSF tonight left Okla City north bound with about a humdred of them, nothing else. And have noticed both east and west bound on the BNSF trans con.  Several trains had some containers and about 50 emptys on intermodal trains.  Is business down that much?

A WB through Fort Madison IA was set up that way today. Front half was single and double stacks followed by 50+ empty bare tables. It stretched from the crew change point to almost half way across the river bridge and it had a DPU.

FYI, by definition a "bare table" is empty.

As a rule, not hard and fast, I've noticed that empty well cars are generally westbound, while empty spine cars are generally eastbound.  As I said, not hard and fast, but if you think about it for a while, it makes some sense.

FYI, BNSF runs "B" symbol trains (baretables) that have empty trailers and containers being repositioned. They are classified as loads for the sake of train make-up rules but still run under a B symbol.

Yes, I like to call them a "B4" train, as in B-NBYLAC4 or B-PHXSBD4.
