Western Railroad Discussion > Saturday at Hesperia with Foreign PowerDate: 03/27/23 22:21 Saturday at Hesperia with Foreign Power Author: atsf5704 Last Saturday, we went out to Hesperia on the east slope of Cajon Pass for a morning of railfanning. We shot 11 trains and 8 of the first 9 had foreign power or special painted power.
First up was BNSF 8081 East with NS AC44C6M 4452. Next came BNSF 7217 with warbonnet 753 and NS Dash 9 9669. UP’s ZLBDV led by 9043 was the third train and the one with just UP power. Train number five is a UP manifest with BNSF 7910 and 5407, UP 4692, and KCS 4793 and 4806 up front. UP 7679 is the mid-train DPU and UP 9072 is on the rear. Next was BNSF 8102 West with what at first glance appeared to be a solid BNSF consist. However, the second unit is GECX 4509. It turned out to be a double train with Tier 4 GEVOs BNSF 3771 and KCS 5012 in the middle.
Next came BNSF’s Z-LACWSP led by BNSF 3950 with CP 8892 and Ferromex 4037. Our eighth train was a late Amtrak #3 with 160, the 50th anniversary “Pepsi Can” unit leading 2 and 167. On the way back home after lunch, we shot one BNSF and two UP light power sets at Pepper Ave. The power for BNSF 7322 East is backing onto their train at West Colton with warbonnet Dash 9 736 leading.
