Union Pacific closing Global 1?

To Our Domestic Intermodal Customers:
Union Pacific has invested more than $150 million in the expansion and upgrade of our Chicago Global 2intermodal terminal facility, in Chicago (Northlake), Illinois. As a result of these investments Global 1 operations will be consolidated into the Global 2 operation on June 19, 2023.

this will leave just Global 2 and 4 in the Chicago area correct?

Which UP Global site sits next to the. Southwest Chief route into U.S.?

Global 2 and 4 can handle todays volumes. Property inside the city of Chicago is expensive to own. Global 1 can be sold for a nice sum of money. Of course when the economy gets strong again, Global and 4 will not be able to handle volume.

It looks like the only trains to and from Global I are the ILCG1 and IG1LC, respectively.

Also, it looks like there are still symbols for trains originating at Global III. They are the IG3CL, IG3SK, IG3AH, IG3G4. Given that the first 3 are interchange with NS and CSX, they must be using G3 for blocking interchange and transfer traffic to other roads. I didn't see any symbols that have G3 as a destination, however, so does this imply trains must drop blocks of cars there while passing through?

EDIT: Or does this imply symbols for trains terminating at G3 are for those of interchanging roads such as NS and CSX? I suppose the question of UP trains stopping there to drop off, or in this case pick up, cars would still apply, however.

That would be Global 1, which years ago was the CNW Wood St TOFC yard. The "Falcons Nest".

Do they still lift at Yard Center in Dolton as well? And does UP still own the old Canalport land if they wanted to use it?

i think they terminate some trains there for block swapping but don't do any ramp traffic. Blocks can be picked up by other trains coming into Chicago, at least that is how I understand it.

... which was the 'potato yard' before that, the CNW Chicago perishable terminal.

I think some Mexico intermodal may still originate at Yard Center.

Yard Center still originates / terminates ILDYC / IYCMX.

Global 3 is still there but is used just for block-swapping.

The closure of Global 1 has been in the planning ever since the hump was deactivated at Proviso.  That allowed for the expansion of nearby Global 2.

Yard Center is also an intermodal facility, though not on the scale of Globals 2 and 4.

Global 1--better known to generations of CNW railroaders as "Wood Street Yard."
