209-car Route B runnin doubled up/mega empty unit frac sand train
Author: jmulhol2

A 209-car Route B runnin' doubled up/mega eastbound (geographically southbound) empty unit "frac" sand train in a 5x0 power configuration is seen here blasting past MP96 on the BNSF Hillsboro Subdivision in Grand Forks, ND, during the sunny early afternoon hours of 06/19/2024. A big thank you to the friendly conductor aboard this train for the wave! Upon approach into the BNSF Dilworth, MN, train yard, this crew was instructed to tie their train down at "Bison Siding" along the BNSF Hillsboro Subdivision just to the north of Fargo, ND.

Power:
BNSF #8161 (GE ES44C4; built: ??/2014)
BNSF #5393 (GE C44-9W; built: 10/2000)

4 minutes might be life or death to someone in an emergency.    Not necessarily at this crossing, but somewhere else, maybe.  Lots of places in the USA where this is a problem, and it is not being rectified, or even considered.
