Haven't Seen a Solid NS Consist Hereabouts for a While (Yuma Sub)
Author: TheNavigator

It's been a while since I've seen or heard of a solid NS consist on either UP or BNSF in SoCal. Today, though, NS 4072 led a ZAILA with 3 NS units trailing and with no UP power mixed in. Timing was about right for an afternoon run west through San Timoteo Canyon on the Yuma Sub, so I decided to give it a try, ending up with mixed results. Thanks for the information and location reports this afternoon, too.

Thanks for looking,
GK

1. NS 4072 passed the Tucson cam at 5:50AM today and, after waiting for a westbound ahead to change crews, it passed El Casco in San Tim 11 hours and 25 minutes later.

2. Same location, shorter focal length.

3. Grab shot at Beaumont Ave. in Loma Linda. Not the shot I wanted, as the train picked up speed but the traffic on the road ahead of me didn't, and I was unable to get into position in time.

4. Lastly, while waiting for NS 4072, the local showed up led by....this.

Love the NS....don't like the tagging.

Looks like UP 3888 spent some time at the Fourth St yard near downtown LA. Parked out in the open with no security at all.

Nice catch and great lighting! I've run across NS-led ZAILAs several times both in SoCal and Arizona recently, but none of them solid NS consist like this one. Loma Linda shot is a bit off the beaten path. Nice result, regardless of the often frustrating weekday traffic in the area.

I often wonder how NS has enough power to run all their trains.

Nice catches.  The NS leaders are really cool.  Thanks for Horsepower Hours nowadays.
