Western Railroad Discussion > MNPRO on the Sidney SubDate: 09/03/24 09:56 MNPRO on the Sidney Sub Author: swaool Here's the MNPRO running 2x1x1 at 15,500 feet and 20,000 tons heading into the sunset at MP 308 on the Sidney Sub, just west of Sutherland NE. The bridge in the far background carries the Gerald Gentleman sub to the power plant of the same name. 9/2/2024.

I'm a fairly fit individual as an avid cyclist, hiker, runner, etc. I generally move at a 2.5-3 mph pace when hiking and backpacking over rough terrain. Walking on ballast, especially where it runs down from the tracks, isn't exactly an easy surface to walk on. I know it comes up here often, but it's crazy to think of the delays that would ensue if a conductor had to hike over 15k feet to the rear DPU of a train like this. I suppose if issues are the exception versus the norm, they are in the noise, but still.
