Crew Change at Fort Dodge Iowa
Author: robj

10/18/2024 crew change at Fort Dodge, Iowa.  Former Illinois Central, Chicago Central, IC and now CN Iowa Line.

"Non-Railfan trip" to see Iowa State game with wifes relatives .  Good game even if not my thing.  "Why are we staying in Fort Dodge"
Actually caught two trains in relatively short time on line that is not that busy.

G80491 eastbound grain train Tara Iowa to Mound City, Il  CN facility is on footprint of old station

Departing after crew change.  Foundation remains I believe is from old freight house. which was set at angle to rail line.

Sharp night images of a place seldom covered.  Thanks for staying over at Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Possibly for the same reason we stayed at Cedar Rapids the last time we went to Iowa City for a Hawkeye’s game? Crazy hotel rates?

Whatever the reason, your night photos continue to be excellent!

Or depending on who's playing, half the state shows up and rooms are hard to come by. This can be said for both college and pro teams. Awesome shots btw!

Great use of the available lighting. The first shot really caught my eye.

The grain will go into barges at Mound City?
It goes there via Chicago?

The current depot stands on where the old depot used to be.
When I went to school at Iowa Central 1987 to 1989 the old depot, freighthouse and roundhouse were still there.
CCP tore down the roundhouse in early 1989. I saved a brick from it.

Love your moody night phptography, Bob.  Stay in Iowa a long time and shoot more than Marquette and Fort Dodge!
