Western Railroad Discussion > Chase of the UP 1983 in Western ColoradoDate: 11/23/24 15:35 Chase of the UP 1983 in Western Colorado Author: SP8595 The Western Pacific Heritage painted engine led a Westbound empty coal train across the Glenwood Springs Subdivision and into Grand Jct. CO earlier today. Unfortunately the engine was placed as the second engine on the rear of the train upon arrival at Grand Jct. so it will not lead when it returns back loaded from the W. Elk Mine.
The day was also a mix of thick high clouds and dark "wave" clouds that made for a frustrating chase at times. 1) The first location where I was able to at least get some muted Sunlight on the train was here near the East switch at Una Siding after the train had a lengthy wait for the Eastbound California Zephyr at Grand Valley. 2) The 1983 is now at the East switch at De Beque Siding as it continues West with the 83 car Pasadena, TX to W. Elk Mine empty coal train. 3) Highballing over the East switch at Palisade, the 1983 is on the final approach to Grand Jct. The tumbleweeds through here are crazy!
