Montana Rail Link Air Force
Author: Alco251

Seen last month awaiting a call to duty at MSO (Missoula, Montana) is Dennis Washington's sleek Boeing Business Jet N162WC, the jet owned by the Montana industrialist who, until recently, owned Montana Rail Link. After BNSF bought back the MRL lease for a rumored $2 billion, there's probably not a lot of concern over fuel bills and airport landing fees for the sleek 737. Note the "split scimitar" winglets on this airplane, a common sight on many airliners. It's a product of Aviation Partners-Boeing, another Washington enterprise. Look 'em up.

Bought used, IIRC, when Netjets abandoned their "large jets" fractional program.

Thought they mostly a BC Company ( aside from the well known rail connection ) but their website puts them in Victoria, Vancouver and Missoula.

Here's their website with lots of clickable links in there:

The Washingtons also have a home in California's Coachella Valley, where Washington Corp. has a hangar at Palm Springs airport. Phyllis Washington has a business in Palm Desert. I've seen their yacht in San Diego.

Washington is most definitely mostly a Montana company that has expanded its interests to other location including BC. Its corporate headquarters is in Missoula.

Not surprising that the plane has the latest in winglets, one of the companies owned by the Washington Group develops and manufactures winglets.

This aircraft has been a private jet since Day 1, so the number of cycles (takeoff and landings) is relatively low compared to a 737 in airline service. Should have many years left…

Um, if that airplane has a certificate date of 08/25/2010 and NetJet had 9 737-700 airplanes in the mid 2000s and then sold them, how could this be from NetJet???

I taught on the 737 for 3 years. Looks good on the outside. Inside the flight deck (Except for the glass) it's like you're back in 1968!

Thanks.

I did not know that the registration number changes with ownership.

The N number is like a license plate. the owner can have it changed or keep it.

According ot the FAA it was built in 1999.

Many corporations are incorporated in Delaware or Texas, and have their corporate HQ anywhere.

The two states have laws which are favorable to companies, have low state taxes and fees, and offer privacy. That is especially important if you have multiple businesses in various locations. The

States which have laws favorable to share owners have lost incorporation revenue for years.

MRL Navy
Author: Alco251

12 years ago I had some time to kill on the San Diego waterfront and happened upon the Washington "Navy"--the Bahaman-registered yacht "Attessa" with spiffy Eurocopters EC135 tied down on the aft helipad. I understand this yacht might have been repleced by "Attessa II" at some point.

I'm told that Netjets is very protective of their "QS" suffix on their registrations (stands for "Quarter Share") and requires a change of tail number upon sale of their aircraft. Netjets, the fractional ownership operation now owned by Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathway, was born of Executive Jet Aviation in Columbus, Ohio, which in an indirect way, served as the corporate flight department of the Pennsylvania Railroad and Penn Central. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetJets
