Overcast on Christmas, a few leftovers
Author: santafe199

On Christmas Day I was happy to have some thick fog to shoot in, and I did pretty well ( Christmas Day fog! ). But by 10:30 or so it was burning off, being replaced with the standard overcast stuff. So I broke for an early lunch in Emporia. Of course, I checked out the usual places in town.

1. The local switch job was returning (shoving) back from the industries on the east side of town. BNSF 1646 & 2798 are doing the honors.

2. & 3. I parked just off Commercial St (main drag N-S) and shot BNSF 4103 on a westbound manifest. It was nice to see some Red & Silver!

And since I already had the mileage down from Manhattan invested I decided to keep on shooting and see what the railfan gods might bring. Here’s a report>>v

4. & 5. Back at Ellinor, all of a sudden shooting first west then east it looked like I would be smack in the middle of a meet.

8. ...BNSF 7052 was on a its own stacker. It was still nice to get the bang-bang action.

9. In the away shot the 7052 will be meeting...

10. ...BNSF 4262 on a unit grainer coming off the La Junta Sub.

11. I easily beat this train over to Saffordville for another look.
Even in crappy weather, railfan fun can be had with the sheer volume of trains.

Thanks for looking!

Looks like you had a merry good time with all the BNSF action around Ellinor, KS.  Carry on, my friend.

Great shots. That first one is fantastic. I like the train showing the variations in the grade and the overcast.
