On March 8, 2025 the BNSF ran a rotary plow train on their Bayard Subdivision out of Council Bluffs, Iowa to clear some large snowdrifts along the line. This photo is near Aspinwall, Iowa.

The Turn used to be 4 axle only, is that still the case?  BTW, that's a great shot!

Power was a rebuilt GP35 powering the plow and a pair of SD70ACE.There was a parked train at Manilla, Iowa with two six axle GE's.

Powering the plow was GP28P BNSF 1542.

I don't suppose anyone caught the rotary plow number, by chance?

Yes last I knew they are still using 4 axles. I did catch one Bayard Job maybe a couple of years back that had a pair of six axles. But they use them on the shuttles to Templeton and Bayard.

Last year, BNSF had three (3) rotary plows in Nebraska alone. The Alliance plow was busy in western Nebraska. The NorthTown  plow was used on the O'Neill to Sioux City line because the Lincoln plow was needed around Grand Island.

BN had 10 GP28P's set up for Snow Plow operation.   Here is the switch in electrical cabinet to divert power from traction motors to connection for the rotaries.
