Western Railroad Discussion > 3 BNSF trains from the Palisade Rim Trail

With a Beautiful morning in Western Colorado and a Norfolk Southern leading a Westbound empty BNSF Oil train, I took the dogs for a walk on the Palisade Rim Trail and ended up shooting three BNSF trains.
The Palisade Rim Trail takes off up the Mountain East of the town of Palisade which is about 10 miles or so East of Grand Jct.

1) Just starting up the trail, I heard a horn from an Eastbound train and it turned out to be BNSF's Local with B40-8W #528 and GP60m #150. This Local runs out of Grand Jct. to Parachute and returns on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The GP60m is a rather rare engine for these parts with this being the first type of this model that I have seen out here in GJ.

2) Looking the other way, Norfolk Southern 4171, 8154 and BNSF 9397 lead the U NSDWGN0 08 (Norfolk Southern/Chicago-Wellington, UT) alongside the Colorado River and under Interstate 70 as it exits out of De Beque Canyon.

3) The Provo to Denver trackage rights manifest train with C44-9W #5691 leading passes the empty Oil train at Palisade and makes the turn out of the Valley to head into the Canyon.

Awesome stuff! You didn’t include my favorite shot your two pooches enjoying the hilltops :)

I missed these. Very nice trio. Drove around that curve on the Interstate last month on the way to my brother in law funeral in Vegas.
