Western Railroad Discussion > Shove a cut of cars to Mira Loma, bring them back again?Date: 04/10/25 07:50 Shove a cut of cars to Mira Loma, bring them back again? Author: RailRat Video 1: 4/7/25 Riverside, Calif Northbound along Van Buren Blvd, shoving a cut of cars to Mira Loma, From Riverside Jurupa AVENUE. industrial lead/yard, (Not to be confused with Crestmore branch along Jurupa ROAD) note crew member riding open air on lead car, is apparently common practice here.
Video 2: 4/8/25 same cut of cars back at Jurupa Avenue industrial lead spur track (almost never see cars spotted here on this spur track, they are usually spotted at small yard directly behind this cut of cars, along LA sub mainline) Which means they never dropped off these cars at Mira Loma? Or picked up cars at Mira Loma, and just kept these cars with the picked up cars? Wonder what happened, why bring these cars back to Riverside after shoving them to Mira Loma?? Maybe just practicing? Engine too far away to do any good.....if the Conductor or Brakeman has a backup whistle, then fine use it...but most likely he is just watching to make sure lights and gates are working. Short answer: No. Reason: The crossing in this video is equipped with crossing gates in the fully lowered position and a crew-member is riding the leading car in direction of movement, presumably directing the movement either by use of hand signals or use of portable radio. No cars ever parked on track in Video #2, they are sitting on, and blocking the industrial lead track, they should have been dropped off at Mira Loma yard Video #1, but they were brought back and spotted here, new cars for next day's job should have been picked up in Mira Loma and spotted in normal small yard in Riverside. (Not visible in video #2). Jim Baker Riverside, CA Date: 04/11/25 21:17 Re: Shove a cut of cars to Mira Loma, bring them back again? Author: RailRat cewherry Wrote:

I have personally seen this same move heading towards me, usually with center beam car in the lead, but not always, and of course, as a railfan, I knew it was coming down the tracks, and thats only by seeing the signals showing a train is coming, even then I had to really strain to finally see it coming from far off, but the casual observer or motorist can't see or (barely hear) anything moving towards them until it's right on top of them. These same units also do this same move going the other direction from Riverside yard towards (Colton?) or Riverside Junction, pulling the cars northbound towards downtown, then shoving them from downtown to Riverside yard off Jurupa Ave. The Mira Loma shove job is preformed first after switching the Riverside industrial lead, then the other downtown job is done after that, on the same day.
