Massive Power on BNSF Southbound Oregon Trunk
Author: Seventyfive

Two hours ago I saw a BNSF creeping southward through Redmond, Oregon with NINE motors on the head end
and one helper on the rear.  Sorry I couldn't post earlier; didn't have my iPhone with me nor my laptop.
I cannot recall having ever previously seen nine motors on the point of a BNSF train, not even on 991.

Yeah, nine units up front, but how many are running and on-line? Willing to bet that it's only four or five units working.

I would imagine half of them could have been dead in tow. That's been a thing lately in this corridor. Shipping dead locomotives to Barstow.

The nine head end motors were not all on line; it sounded like two or three were hauling.  Plus the rear end helper.
Still, seeing that much power was quite a sight.  I haven't seen anything roll through Redmond at a decent clip in
about two months or so.  If anyone knows why please advise.

Not as many containers moving these days so a power surplus could be developing so send that surplus power to Barstow for storage. It will be handy there if things change.

Maybe they'll actually do some maintenance on the locomotives while they're not being used.  Oh, wait, what was I thinking?  Gotta cut costs!

On Good Friday I saw a northbound freight with 8 motors up front.
Could any of them be the same as those you saw?
