Western Railroad Discussion > "Niland Geyser" (Southern California)Date: 07/29/25 11:36 "Niland Geyser" (Southern California) Author: cchan006 TO members have diligently reported on this natural phenomenon for 5-6 years already. Use the keyword in the title for a quick TO search. Link below is a report about 2 years ago from TO member thatguy, and since then, the "geyser" has stayed about where it is:
https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,5632191 Google Maps call it the "Moving Mud Spring, Mundo" and Mundo is the nearest named location on the map. It is located about ~4500' SE (railroad east) from the signals at SP 661.8, ~662.7, so it is close to CP Wister on the Yuma Sub. I measured the ~4500' by coordinates obtained from old school non-Smartphone GPS so my location was not transmitted in real time. I was loitering in the area recently, no known "high value targets" coming, so I was hunting randomly. When I saw the signal indications nearby, I guessed correctly that both a westbound and an eastbound was coming soon, so I drove to Mundo and got in position. Waited less than 5 minutes for each train. I got lucky and got 2 Z trains, no slow-rolling monster manifests, nor underpowered Long Beach stackers. - I'm looking north. Mud geyser closest to the tracks. - Shoofly tracks no longer being used. (looking SE) - Video of 2 Z trains, westbound then eastbound. You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! I'm sure these are more common now, thanks to trains being "PSR-long" these days.
That's it for the report. Date: 07/29/25 21:41 Re: "Niland Geyser" (Southern California) Author: oyw Very enjoyable, well put together story!
