In passing by on the freeway westbound, you can see how far away from the mainline that tank is / was, and it's interesting to consider where (and how) the tracks got all the way over to it, enabling the steam locos to take on water. But, they did. Good spot for MOW equipment to be parked periodically. The Loram balast cleaning machine was there about a week. Down the way a piece at Emory is a place where you can plainly see the results of the balast cleaning on the uphilll main. (Don't know when or if they'll clean the downhill main.) Also... the automatic track greasing device on the downhill main at Emory has ben removed (???). (My apologies for referring to "uphill main" and "downhill main" instead of "Main One" and "Main Two." I'd have caught hell if I got them backwards...) By the way Cricket... great vid! |
