View from the Lumberyard - Flagstaff, AZ
Author: HomerBedloe

Mapboy and SteveLV were ahead of me by about a day - responding to yesterday's post, they wished they were at the Lumberyard enjoying a beer and watching BNSF's Seligman Sub traffic.  When we were in Flagstaff last month, we made sure we enjoyed that very combo a couple of times.  Strangely, the first time we went we never saw a train, which may be a first.  But the second time, the attached video shows what came by.  We didn't video the local beers we were enjoying, so I'll just have to let you imagine the couple of brews we sampled.

Had to shorten a couple of the trains to meet the 6 minute requirement.  The tank train was shortened because a couple of folks decided to have a bit of a discussion right in front of where we were sitting, so I just cut them out.  The final manifest was about 15 cars short of being completed - there were about 8 - 10 C6 hoppers followed by a 5 - 6 gons.  Mapboy, hope that helps with your car counts!

Thanks for watching.

Now you're just makin' me feel jealous.  Four trains in one sitting!  It looked like two different father-daughter duos looking at the trains at 1:45 and 2:15, everybody having a good time.

Around 60 years ago my cousin was eating inside at whatever place it was then.  A young guy comes in and orders some dinners to go, for his brothers in the car, and asks my cousin if he knows Window Rock.  He says sure, that's the headquarters for the Navajo Nation.  The kid says, "We have a gig there.  We have a song, "Ten Little Indians."  Do you think it would be okay to do the song [from 1962]?"  My cousin might have saved them from a beating.  He told him not to do the song.  The young guy was Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.

Nice one.

What this video tells me is that we railfans are a really small percentage of the population. Almost all restaurant patrons ignored the great freight train parade.

I guess I already knew that. Video confirmation. :-)
