The Alpine Tunnel itself is nestled in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains, a vast mountain system containing many other peaks like Mount Elbert, the highest in Colorado.
Specific Peaks Near Alpine Tunnel Mount Poor and Mount Helmers: These are two peaks that form the high alpine valley where the Alpine Tunnel is situated. Other Notable Mountains in the Vicinity Mount Elbert: Located within the Rocky Mountains, it is the highest peak in Colorado. Video shows Alpine Station and ruined (fire in 1906) one track enginehouse that once featured a turntable, inspection pit, inside water tank and work area made of stone (granite).
