East Bay (CA) Rambles
Author: dwatry

A couple of shots from the SF Bay Area East Bay over the last few days.  I've been very lucky with the freight movements lately!

1)  On Monday's bike ride (10/27/25) I managed to catch the IOANP-27 (Intermodal Oakland-North Platte) making its exit from Oakland at 1230pm - a bit earlier than usual.    Here it's being raced by a Schnitzer Steel scrap truck trying to beat it down The Embarcadero.
2)  Tuesday 10/28/25 - here's a San Joaquin departing for Bakersfield.  The new cab cars are not accepted yet so they are using California Car cab cars with the new Siemens equipment.
3)  Same train on the business end with an F59PH shoving.

4)  Still on 10/28/25 - westbound Capitol Corridor train coming into Oakland.
5) IOANP-28 leaving Oakland at 1230pm again - same time as previous day.
6) IOANP-28 passing Williams Street in San Leandro, and the abandoned tracks of the San Leandro yard.

7)  Wednesday 10/29/25 back on the bike - but this time north to Berkeley.  Here's the MRVOA (Manifest Roseville-Oakland) rolling slowly past Berkeley station, about to cross over in Emeryville.
8)  And here's an eastbound San Joaquin in push mode passing Berkeley station at speed.  Next stop - Richmond!

Thanks for the photos -- there are folks who know whether or not in the Berkeley photos were are seeing remnants of the landside or waterside drill?  B

The rails in the foreground are remnant of waterside drill.   Landside is gone at that location.

Great rambling territory! Thanks for sharing your recent images. I happened to be over there yesterday and was on way up the Adeline St. overpass to inspect a huge hole in the fence when this Breda LRV rolled into Schnitzer on its last trip anywhere.

Boy, I remember Mulford yard being busy, and a Crud was stationed there. Williams St was a great place to look back on the yard and Kellogg's was just a block or two away.

Neat stuff Duncan.

They were still using that track to the right of the main line to get to Kellogg's in 2020 but I guess the plastic bag maker is no longer using rail at that location and probably aren't even in that building anymore. Google doesn't show a Poly there.
