Western Railroad Discussion > Chance sighting of ATSF Caboose 999290 on the move.Date: 11/06/25 22:25 Chance sighting of ATSF Caboose 999290 on the move. Author: RailRat I was traveling east on 60 freeway in Riverside today, got off at Main st, and was surprised to see a caboose at end of off ramp, so I dug my phone out of pocket and grabbed a few last second pictures. I think they were turning north on Main street, but not sure, they may have just been getting off then on again to clear the overpass? Had to get delivery done, no time to hang around and see which way they were going. Maybe either Perris or Hunter Hobby Park? No idea. Anyone here on TO know? Sorry for photo quality, this all happened quickly and I had to shoot while moving along., New phone also.

Any idea of how much a truck weights with the wheels sets? Date: 11/07/25 05:38 Re: Chance sighting of ATSF Caboose 999290 on the move. Author: atsf121 Wish it was coming to my house, have always liked those Santa Fe cabooses.

My eyes saw a lot of peeling, chipping paint on those side flanks as I drove along side of it. Author: wabash2800 I was referring more to the rust that starts inside the walls from leaks in the roof. I have actually seen steel cabooses bubble out. Even cabooses needed care. But heated from the inside helps both rolling stock and locos.
