Western Railroad Discussion > Deseret Power - my visitDate: 11/07/25 10:43 Deseret Power - my visit Author: 55002 Having had numerous railfan trips to the States, from the UK, the Deseret Power Railway has always evaded me due to its remoteness. However, this year we got there, and picked up some useful info from TO uploads. Photo 1 - This was near the loader for the return empties on Wednesday October 1st, with DPR 1,3 & 4 in service. Not too sure of the actual program of workings, and due to the short daylight hours, I phoned the number provided by Dick Ebright a few months ago on TO. The guy thay answered (Rusty?) was very helpful and told us the workings for that day and tomorrow. So we waited for the afternoon departure of the loads, which left at 17:34. (Photo 2). Whilst waiting, the guy who spoke to us stopped and welcomed us and was pleased to see us out taking photos. He informed us that the return working this day would load that evening for an early (6ish) departure on the Tursday. That would make it in the dark.

So we set up at the overbridge along Old Bonanza Hwy. At around 09:30 the empties came along, as per the info. A couple of photos - one at the overbridge, and the drone up for the other. As this was a Thursday, we then headed off towards Green River UT, for the Friday potash. Thanks to TO members for their useful gen, and the helpful guy at the loader. Chris uk.

Side Note: When I lived and worked in Idaho, I was told by a few people, the the word "Deseret" is a kind of "play" word made up by Mormans, for the word Desert. And we had several great little thrift stores/job training centers for many years down here in Southern California called "Deseret Industries" I frequented often, presume owned by Mormans, the one I often went to in Colton, CA. Is gone now or moved, but it was there forever, ever since I was a kid back in the 1960's. I recall going there as late as 2013. Just did a Google search they are still around, I'm sure in many states, and certainly in Utah. Posted from Android Jim Baker Riverside, CA Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 11/08/25 13:16 by RailRat.
