Central Montana (CM) power updates?
Author: Clickhappy

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.

While researching the history of GP30 SW 4227 (28513, 7663-22, September 1963) I see that after it left the Eastern Washington (WER) it went to Western Rail (WRIX) and was converted to a GP38-3 and then sent to the fine folks in Denton, Montana.

I thought the CM was a GP9-only railroad, so I was surprised to see them getting a GP38-3. I was even more surprised to see they already have two 38-3’s on the roster! Is their plan to get rid of the old 9’s and move to the 38-3’s, or will they keep the GP9’s. Also, does anyone know the road number for the newest GP30, ex-SW 4227?

I know one of the GP9’s went to Washington, Idaho, & Montana Railway (WIM), I was fortunate enough to photograph it in August.

Thank you!

Western Rail posted a couple updates on the 4227 to their Facebook page through October, they identify it as the CMR 4227.

Was this the former Southwestern RR 4227 ( operated by the Cimarron Valley ) at Satanta, Ks ?
