Western Railroad Discussion > Starting The Year With Some PhotographyDate: 01/02/26 20:08 Starting The Year With Some Photography Author: mojaveflyer Due to some ongoing life adventures I haven't had many chances to do any photography. I decided this morning to get out to shoot Amtrak #5's departure from Denver. I chose the Lamar Street crossing where the two mainlines become a single track leaving town. Not bad for the first time out shooting in awhile!
Photo #1- The crossing signals lit up and I realized Amtrak #5 was approaching me on it's way out of town. Photo #2- As #5 approached me I realized it had one of Amtrak's engines with the Phase VII paint scheme leading. This is the first time I've had to catch one. The two signs to the left show speed limits for trains arriving in town. The 65 over 45 are the speed limits for passenger and freight trains. The "7" is the milepost measured from Denver Union Station in downtown. Photo #3- I turned round and caught the lead engine as it approached the signal showing a "diverging clear" as the double track ends. Thanks for looking!
