Sucker-hole last Sunday
Author: oyw

Some may know the weather here in Southern California has been terrible since Christmas. Even though rain was predicted last weekend for both days, by Sunday morning (Jan 4) I couldn’t stay cooped up any longer and headed for Cajon. My hope was to find a sucker-hole and get at least one picture of a train in sunshine. After Summit, I could see some promise east of Hesperia and by MP42, I found the sucker-hole. It lasted long enough to photograph three trains, unfortunately all were basic everyday BNSF stacks with ordinary orange GE’s for power, but at least the clouds looked nice.

1) BNSF 3911W comes around the curve at MP42.

2) Reasonably clean BNSF 5853 leads a long eastbound maritime stack train.

3) One last westbound had BNSF 7814 and 5311 powering, what looked like, a repo train of solid JB Hunt empty containers. Empty or not, this train lost a unit and was stalled at Lugo when I passed it on my way home.

As mentioned, nothing special here but it beat sitting at home in the rain. BTW, now our weather forecast for the next two weeks is mostly sunny...of course.

Thanks for looking,

OYW

Great results from your "sky reading" skills... and I love the heat distortion, background superelevation lean, and the overall composition in your third shot.
