Rock Island engine house in Amarillo

The Rock shed is slated to be demolished this year I'm told along with the FWD depot .

Cool shot, good to see someone archiving it. Yeah, RI always used that crappy corrugated sheet metal for its engine shops. Probly not much for insulation in the winters.

I'm surprised it is still standing. Saw it for the first time in June 1971. Here it is in better days, 6/20/1971 with GP40 4711 and mates waiting for the next assignment out of town.  GP18 1338 in the background waits for it's next job, most likely headed west to Tucumcari, NM.

Guessing the FW&D roundhouse isn't owned by the railroad anymore, but is its current owner using it for something or is it just sitting abandoned?

Thanks, SD45X, for finding the old Fort Worth & Denver roundhouse in Amarillo, Texas.  You're having a very productive trip around Texas this week.

I'll throw my 2¢ in as well, with this photo of Rock Island GP35 305 at the Amarillo enginehouse.  (Amarillo, Texas – March 4, 1973). Craig Walker photograph

As an Amarillo native really enjoyed the photos.  Have wondered if UP used the rights on the old C&S obtained out of the ATSF/BN merger; nowI know,  Wonder who the customer is?

Yet another tragedy.  I wonder what John Dow Farrington would say...or John Ingram, for that matter!
