Western Railroad Discussion > Westbound Z-trainDate: 02/28/26 13:59 Westbound Z-train Author: swaool Westbound Z-train pulls through CP B283 approaching Bailey Yard on the North Platte Terminal sub. Believe this was the ZMNNP, as it was a bit late for the Salt Lake Z, and he usually gets more than two units. UP 9600 was originally SP 8136.

When does the ZG2BR and ZG2LT trains pass through in relationship to the ZG2SC? I'm curious as to the connections that are made off of the ZMNNP to these westbound trains? Does the ZMNNP arrive at North Platte after the westbound connections have already departed, resulting in the ZMNNP traffic waiting there until the following day's trains? In the past, before UP's full on adoption of PSR, UP ran separate trains from the southeast through North Platte (like the ZKCBR and also a Northern California one, though I can't remember its train symbol). I know in the Pacific Northwest, the ZKCBR and the ZG2BR trains pretty much ran opposite each other on the clock (about 12 hours difference between the two trains), so it seems unlikely there would be a good meet now days with all these trains at North Platte. I don't think any work before North Platte, can do Rochelle-Kearney in 11+ hours, and add 2+ more hours to NP.

Great Q, I was also wondering the same about when the inbound North Platte Z arrivals relative to its outbound connections. Similarly for eastbound inbounds and the outbound Z for Marion. Because KC and Marion shouldn't be low volume lanes, and while Dupo lift volume might not be huge, it's an important eastern connection (although the new Louisville, KY lanes with NS interchange in KC). |
