Western Railroad Discussion > Apparent Train vs Car, Highway 93 near Wells, NvDate: 03/01/26 19:49 Apparent Train vs Car, Highway 93 near Wells, Nv Author: JDLX I haven’t seen any details yet, but apparently Highway 93 south of Wells, Nevada, was closed for a good part of today due to a vehicle vs train collision. Anyone know any more specifics?

It's a long way but well worth the drive what a view. No cubby-holes in the tunnel it seems and it's a long one. Not sure about this recent crash one thing still alive out here though is White Line Fever. You'll go 20 miles on Hwy 93 and not remember a thing. It was in the NTSB report for the Amtrak #5/huge haul truck crash on Hwy 95 near Fallon, NV 15 years ago. They didn't actually use the term White Line Fever but yeah that's what they meant. They have approach warnings with flashing yellow lights now also at the Hwy 95 crossing. Even with those in place the Fever can still take hold. Interesting phenomenon. But I remember that Crossing was wide open visually both directions, trains would labor kind of upgrade heading east, but could haul ass heading west! Plus vehicles can also haul ass right over that Crossing too! All I can imagine is a vehicle at highway speed seeing the warning gates activated, and maybe panic braking, but would have to have possibly stalled right on the xing?. A train heading east (uphill) there would have probably been able to stop in time, but a Westbound at speed not so much. And as you mentioned, out there, 20 miles can go by quickly without a thought, for drivers, and maybe train crews as well? Posted from Android Jim Baker Riverside, CA Edited 1 time(s).
