Western Railroad Discussion > Western Rail donates F40PH to the Nevada State Railroad MuseumDate: 03/03/26 05:50 Western Rail donates F40PH to the Nevada State Railroad Museum Author: BrandonRC The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Boulder City, NV announced that they have gotten confirmation of a donation from Western Rail of ex-Amtrak F40PH 315. According to the NSRMBC this locomotive would be turned into an interactive display which would feature Amtrak artifacts Southern Nevada and tell the history of AMTK 315 itself.
For those who do not know, Amtrak has not ran a named train in Southern Nevada since 1997. Many attempts have been made in restoring passenger service to Las Vegas ever since, with companies such as the X Train making some promising progress but falling short in the end. Currently Brightline West is building a high speed rail line on the I15 which would connect the greater Los Angeles area to Las Vegas. Also in conjunction with that Amtrak announced their plans of reactivating the Desert Wind as apart of their "Connect 50" plan. According to the facebook post from the NSRMBC, the locomotive would be interchanged some time later this year. Western Rail is based in Airway Heights, WA so plan accordingly for those wanting to catch a F40PH. I do hope that BW is able to actually build the line; costs have risen to over $22 billion and I don’t think anyone would be surprised if they go to double that in the end, or more. Plus Brightline in Florida is in financial straights….
