Western Railroad Discussion > UP Piling up in Yards nowDate: 04/07/26 19:33 UP Piling up in Yards now Author: funnelfan UP had some bad pileups in the yards at both North Platte, NE and Nampa, ID today. I've seen video of the aftermath of both. Below is a photo showing part of the North Platte pile.

It's not really "inside" the yard, but on the east departure lead, the track furthest to the right in this photo, and about seven blocks to the photographers back: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,6146582

If the LTL trucking business had this many smashed trailers and damaged freight, we'd be out of business. UP seems to have derailments almost on a weekly basis. It seems like we have so many disabled UP freights delaying the Coast Starlight in Oregon now.
