UP Valley Sub / Redding CA Question
Author: DelMonteX

Trying to update my notes regarding the Redding area.

The last timetable I have, from 2009, shows no siding or yard in Redding.   I can see from aerial photography there are two tracks for about 2.5 miles starting (or ending) just north of the depot in Redding.   Along the way that expands to 4 tracks for maybe 1.75 to 2 miles.   Based on the "looks" of the easterly track, that is a siding.

Is that pretty accurate?

I'm just trying to get clarification on how these track are classified.    I wasn't clear enough.    Basically, is this a siding and yard tracks,  or a section of 2 main tracks, each with sidings?    Camera's not going to help me much with that, as far as I can tell.

Single main track with dual control switches leading to the non bonded "siding" and tracks on the east side of the main. The siding on the west side uses standard hand throw switches. I've seen cars in all tracks and I'm not sure how the Redding crews use the tracks. As a conductor, long ago, I have made set outs on both sides of the main. Using the crossover to access the east siding.

The non-bonded on the East side used to be the storage track for the fire cars.
