Western Railroad Discussion > Sunday morning Warbonnet DPU chaseDate: 04/30/26 22:06 Sunday morning Warbonnet DPU chase Author: oyw Last weekend’s weather prediction was not a good one. Saturday turned out to be the worst day, with no sun and light rain in the afternoon. Sunday showed mostly clouds but I decided to mosey out for a look and, ultimately, was glad I did. I started out down in San Bernardino where a timely call from a friend brought hope. BNSF’s WCLBAR (West Colton to Barstow manifest) was departing Colton with Warbonnet GE 717 as the outward facing DPU, now all I had to do was find some sunshine in Cajon Pass.
1) I waited on the edge of the clouds near the old Cajon Campground and found a sucker hole as the rear passed. I did have to Photoshop out the graffitied barricade near the second to last hopper. 2) Minutes later, the sun was still out at Cajon. 3) After getting shut out by the clouds at Pine Lodge, it was still fairly early so I waited up near the Hesperia airport where the skies were significantly clearer. That was it, nothing really unusual but still made for a nice chase. Thanks for looking.
