Western Railroad Discussion > UP Lending a Hand to the ZephyrDate: 05/04/26 14:48 UP Lending a Hand to the Zephyr Author: ColoradoRailfan Greetings-
The eastbound Zephyr through Denver was running about two hours behind schedule yesterday evening. The train apparently had some issues on Donner Pass, necessitating the addition of a UP ES44AC to the point for the journey east. 1. The first shot comes just east of Tolland (UP Moffat Tunnel Sub), where the tracks cross over South Boulder Creek. A nice look at the Continental Divide in the distance. The divide should be covered in snow by the end of the week as 6-10 inches of snow is forecasted for Denver starting tomorrow night, and 1-2 feet possible in the high country. 2. By the time I got down to Big Ten, a sliver in the clouds to the west allowed the sun to break through and create some pretty impressive storm lighting as dark clouds moved east out onto the plains. The Zephyr descends from Big Ten toward a green signal at the west end of Rocky. 3. DS-378 set up a really great meet at Leyden. The Zephyr held the main and this UP oil empty ran through the siding. It ended up being a rolling meet for both trains. The shot here is just west of the west switch as the oil empty charges toward the setting sun. Kevin Morgan Arvada, CO ColoradoRailfan.com Date: 05/04/26 14:50 Re: UP Lending a Hand to the Zephyr Author: ColoradoRailfan I'm trying to do a litlte more video these days, so I set my iPhone shot up at the South Boulder Creek crossing east of Tolland. Hope it is acceptable as I make no claim at being a videographer. 😆
