Ever since the GP30, all EMD GP and SD models had the "constant section" design underframe, which had the flat bottom plate with two large "I beam" type beams running the length of the underframe. They were superceded by the later units with the 4 - sided elevated dome above the dust bin blower housing; I believe the RR's wanted a longer filter life.
Date: 05/08/26 13:54 Re: SPGP35 with flat frames/platforms Author: SP_8299 I'm guessing you're referring to SP's Phase II (modeler term) units that had the later straight frame and deeper fuel tank, vs. earlier production with the GP7/9/20/30 "fishbelly" frame and shallow fuel tank? They were SP 7762-7782 as delivered, then renumbered to 6659-6679. Some units later rebuilt/renumbered as GP35Rs in the 63xx-series.
