Today I drove down to Kansas City to get the beautifully restored Bicentennial painted Milwaukee Road SD40-2 #156 as it moved from Union Pacific's Neff Yard down to Kansas City Union Station where it will be displayed for the next 4 days. The engine is not operational so the Kansas City Terminal sent GP38-2 #3852 to haul it over. I was hoping that it was going to be front uncoupled but it ended up being nosed into the rear of the KCT engine.

1) It was Very foggy in spots on the drive into Kansas City early this morning and it was still a little hazy as the Union Pacific 7506 headed through "The Bottoms" area in Kansas City with a long mixed Intermodal, manifest train.

2) A little while later, the Union Pacific 5830 showed up as the solo leader on a loaded coal train heading to Evergy's Hawthorn Power Plant that is located on the East side of Kansas City.

3) Then the 3852, complete with U. S. flags flying rolled through with the 156.

4) A going away view as it heads down the start of BNSF's Ft. Scott Sub. with the last car of a BNSF Grain train seen just to the right of the trees.

5) The move pulled past the signals at Santa Fe Jct. and is now reversing back towards Union Station.

6) A going away view with a Westbound BNSF train heading through the Junction.

----------Plans call for this engine to possibly get restored to operating condition in the future which would be Way Cool:}

Nice pics.  That's a project that seemed to fly under the radar.  Looks like they did a nice job.

Its supposed to go back for more work at Railway Service Contractors in Kanasa City, KS, where the original restoration work was done.  Wonder if the Milwaukee smaller fuel tank will ever go bank under it.  A minor detail.

One of the better Bicentennial paint schemes! Better than many of the "overblown" 250 schemes.Your mileage may vary...

Great series!

Very cool!

Really neat to see it repainted, even with the slightly longer fuel tank. The Yellow Geep is also noteworthy, with the Espee style " Gyralite Notch " still visible in the nose.

The yellow geep is a former SP GP35R.
