BIG Potato Trains on UP's Nampa Sub
Author: zchcsse

No, not long trains of potatoes, but instead, trains by a HUGE potato.

In Orchard, ID (between Nampa and Mountain Home) sits a rather large potato that one can spend the night in.   It used to be a promotional potato that was trucked around the country for several years promoting Idaho Potatoes, however now it is an Airbnb you can rent.

It happens to be located along UP's Nampa Sub at the west end of the Orchard siding.  My wife and I just spent a night there enjoying the novelty of it and the handful of trains that rolled by.

Video 1 features the MPCHK rolling west past the potato.   No trains came by during the best lighting conditions, so this video ends with a brief shot of the sun setting behind the WBCS at the west end of Orchard.

Video 2 features the ITAG4 rolling east in a 4x1x1 set up.   One of the motors in the head end consist sounded a bit strange.

Nice videos. It's unfortunate that the other worthy landmark there was recently removed by UP. My only visit to that relatively off the beaten track location netted this photo.

Thank you!

Yes, I was disappointed (and surprised) to see that it was gone when I arrived there.   I'm glad you were able to document it.
