Western Railroad Discussion > P+W / GP operations questionDate: 08/01/26 20:00 P+W / GP operations question Author: wye-it That’s Portland + Western / Georgia Pacific, in western Oregon, by the way.
I don’t travel Hwy. 20 between Albany + Corvallis very often anymore, but when I do, I make sure to see if any freight is staged at Ashahr Siding. This morning (and a few other times over the last several months) Ashahr Siding contained approximately 40 loads of wood chips; nothing else. Other times, the siding is empty or contains cars set out by the returning Toledo Hauler. For the chip loads, it seems to be ‘all or nothing.’ I’m wondering why this is…does P+W only haul chips on select trains, or does GP only accept chips on certain days, or what? In the past, it seemed like the Hauler hauled chips as they arrived at the yard in Albany. The pattern seems to have changed. Anyone out there have any info about it? Wyatt Date: 08/01/26 21:51 Re: P+W / GP operations question Author: roustabout I remember hearing that the mill had a slow down and chips got backed up in Albany yard. To relieve congestion in the yard, they were taken out to Ashahr. The Hauler has been stopping at Ashahr to pick up chips. I don't know this for sure, but the rollover could only unload about 20 a day so that might be how many they're taking at a time - although the Hauler I saw last Tuesday night was all boscars.
