Western Railroad Discussion > Bitch Creek trestle, ID

This was part of the UP's branch to Victor, ID, now a rail trail. I biked about 10 miles of it yesterday. The creek's name is taken from the French word, biche, or female deer.

On a road trip several years ago we spent a night in Victor, Idaho. Had the best barbeque I've ever had

You wouldn't guess it by the looks of it, but this location on the east side of the Teton Valley was selected as it offered the lowest crossing the creek. The canyon gets even deeper to the east and west of the bridge. There are two other tall trestles like this further north.

North along that trail is a pin-connected Peagram truss bridge. Not a common bridge design.

Is there no more traffic on this line (I saw that it's a bike trail....) including lumber?  Nothing at all?  Idaho is big for timber and agriculture.  Looks like it was once a major branch.

That Peagram truss design sure has thin horizontal steel pices on the bottom end / pin end of the truss design.  Very thin!  Hard to believe it works!

Thanks. It's a Kona Dawg. I bought it used from the rental shop in Winter Park maybe 20 years ago. Hybrid x-country/downhill, which is perfect for me. My son (bike patrol/ski patrol at Jackson Hole) keeps urging me to get something new. But I like my trusty old one!

Ha ha, you'e got full suspension and disk brakes, if it ain't broke.... don't give those marketing guys any satisfaction! ;-)
