Western Railroad Discussion > Possible derailment Just east of SparksDate: 08/25/26 08:35 Possible derailment Just east of Sparks Author: GCCIteacher Anyone aware of a derailment just east of Vista Blvd in Sparks? DOT cams show a a stopped train and large cloud of dust.

The Truckee river runs through the canyon at that location, so it could be that you're seeing condensation of moisture above the river. (Though temps aren't that cold there right now.) Also, there has been a lot of track work going on over Donner Pass this summer, so perhaps they are working east on the Nevada Sub and you're seeing dust from that.
With respect to trains, the first eastbound road train out of Sparks this morning would probably be the IOANP. It rolled into Sparks a little before 6 am this morning. Is it possible that the train you're showing is a ballast train dumping ballast? That makes a hell of a lot of dust.

Ended up being a long day considering we only weredumping for a total of about 2 hours. Endedup dying after tying the train down at Hafed once the cars were emptied. Brody Wyrick Reno, NV |
